Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Georgian Committee (hCa GC)
History of establishment
The initiative group of the Georgian National Committee of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly (hCa GNC) has been established on the basis of the Association of National Accord, in 1989. In 1992, hCa GNC was recognized as an international structure. Formally, the organization was registered on 14th December 1995 and re-registered took place on 24th December 1998. hCa GNC is one of the first human rights/peace organizations operating in Georgia and in the Caucasian Region. hCa GNC was developed out of the small informal group “Platoon after Noe Zhordania”, created in a unit of the Soviet Army, which further transformed into the Group “Mokvare” (Relative). In the next step it became the Association of National Accord of Georgia. Together with a wide network of organizations, it has made significant and extraordinary contributions to the prevention of new conflicts and mass bloodshed, as well as to the improvement of the conditions for persons who became victims of war and violence.
